The George Washington University Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of assistant professor in materials engineering starting as early as January 2010.

Basic Qualifications:
Applicants must have:
demonstrated expertise in characterization and/or modeling of engineering materials; and
a doctoral degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
Doctoral candidates will be considered, but must complete the doctorate by December 1, 2009.
The successful applicant is expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and to establish and maintain a strong, externally-funded research program.

Preferred Qualifications:
Desirable areas of research include, but not limited to: micro/nano scale characterization of civil engineering materials, computational materials engineering, multi-scale materials modeling, smart materials, and high rate dynamic effects. A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and postdoctoral experience are desirable. Preference will be given to candidates who exhibit the desire to collaborate in more than one area.

Job Description:  Our advanced ceramics company has an immediate opening for a Process Engineer. The Candidate will be assisting in the production of high tech ceramic components for use in advanced energy applications. Candidate must be familiar with PLCs, sensors, equipment controls and electrical components.  Individual must have the ability to understand material properties and applications as they apply to tooling and machine design. Knowledge of good machining and welding practices is desirable.   Preference will be given to candidates with solid modeling and designing using Solid Works.

  • To be knowledgeable of and ensure that our products comply with or exceed all appropriate Federal, State and other governing bodies’ specifications and/or regulations.
  • To gather technical data from customers and to assist in the design of their particular systems or to provide solutions in accordance with the data.
  • To assist in the development of technical papers and articles for publication and/or presentation on behalf of the company’s technology and associated applications.
  • To provide technical training on products, applications and terminations to company personnel, customers and others as required.
  • Customer presentations
  • Sales calls with RSM's
  • Participating in alliance partnerships as technical representative
  • To manage projects as assigned by AE Manager or VP – R&D.

 

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

  • Direct, implement and document product field evaluations.
  • Qualify, institute and report the inspection and/or testing of product as requested by customers.
  • Assist in development and qualification of technical customer proposals and/or response to technical requests.
  • Maintain an active membership in appropriate associations
