I have been having intermittent problems with my e-mail and my laptop is with Andrew who is trying to take care of it.

PROJECT PROPOSAL

By next Tuesday I would like you to form project teams and prepare a project proposal (half a page typed).

BE READY TO DISCUSS IT AFTER CLASS ON MONDAY AND/OR DURING LAB ON TUESDAY.

LAB DUE DATE AND SOME ADVICE

Every lab is due on the following Tuesday.
There is no specific lab format.
Summarize your results and discuss your conclusions separately from the code.
The “presentation” should include key only aspects of the method, important results (use graphs if possible) and a discussion.
I am always interested in the following aspects:

1)       What is the “accuracy” of your calculation
2)       Is your method efficient vs alternative methods?
3)       Is your method robust? I.e., how sensitive it is to errors etc.

Read the post in this link  that has been on the class web page. It was written by a TA, 2 years ago and makes a lot of sense.
PLEASE ASK ME QUESTIONS IF YOU HAVE ANY... DONT WAIT TILL THE LAST MOMENT.

Lab 2

Tomorrow, I will need to leave the lab at 11:00 for a faculty meeting for the upcoming ABET visit. Bill will continue helping you till 12:30.

LAB TIME HAS CHANGED

It is now Tuesday 9:30-12:30 in Alumni 174.
The time has changed to accomodate those who take Thermo.
This means that we will not have lab this week.
There was a lab in 12-Oct for "term project discussion". We have to do this out of class.

Hello to all,

Please "ignore" all previous posts from the year before.
I will be posting here information about the 2007-08 version of these two courses that I am going to teach for this quarter.

Remember there is no final in this class. Lab reports:25%; Midterm:25%; Project:50%.
The project work is intense. You should start thinking and discussing about it immediately.
For teams of 2-3 people. Come up with a topic. It may be related to your co-op, senior design, or research but
you need to have it approved by me. The most common problems are late start and unreasonably complicated projects.
Here is a timeline for the course. Notes will be posted on the web. See you in class tonight.
We will talk about the lab component for the grad students tonight.
