Adding Events to the MSE Calendar

Adding the Tag to Your Post

To add your post as a calendar entry, you need only add one simple line to the end of your post:

date      eg. 10/31/2006 would post your event on Halloween.

date time      eg. 10/31/2006 6:00 PM would post your event at Trick-or-Treating time.

Do not copy the above lines--the cal tags are images!  You need to type the opening and closing tags.

If you have any experience with HTML, the concept of this tag won't be hard to grasp.  The cal tag begins with and ends with a similar tag, , modified using a forward slash (the one under the question mark).  To remove your post from the calendar, simply edit your post and remove the entire tag.

Posting to the Community Calendar

By default, any post that has a tag (described above) will be shown on the community calendar.

Posting to the Materials Home Page

There are two things to keep in mind for events that will be posted to the Materials website.

    a) an optional ending date: simply add a second cal tag, after the first, that contains the ending date and time.

    b) an optional (though encouraged) location: simply follow the same procedure, adding a [loc]location[/loc] tag after the cal tag.

All events that get posted to the sidebar on the Materials website are stored in three forum groups: Calendar -> MSE Events, External Events, Student Events.  To prevent unauthorized posting, access to these folders is restricted.  If you are a member of a student group who would like to be able to post events, please contact me about getting this set up.
