DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The position is located at the Eastern Regional
Research Center,
Wyndmoor, PA.
The incumbent will design and produce modifications of hydrolyzed keratin and
anionic nanoparticle wool and examine their properties and potentials for
adding greater value to wool fiber or fabric to improve physical properties
such as flame retardency, UV resistance, or antimicrobial efficacy.
Characterization of these materials will involve cooperation with ERRC’s
support staff in employing confocal, atomic force and scanning electron
microscopies, protein characterization, amino acid and functional group
analysis, FTIR, and MALDI-TOG MS. The incumbent will employ statistics to
design research experiments for evaluating the effectiveness of treatments a
ccording to Standard Test Methods for textile testing.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Recent Ph.D. in Chemical,
Biological, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering or Polymer Science or a
closely related field is required. Knowledge of textiles preferred. Experience
with nanoparticle or nanocomposite research is required.
