TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION

FACULTY POSITION:  The University of Idaho’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) is seeking a candidate for a tenure track position. Applications are invited at the assistant professor level in Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related field with an emphasis in polymer materials.  Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related discipline.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

The applicant is expected to establish and sustain a dynamic and vigorous externally funded research program in their area of expertise. This position requires a strong commitment to teaching and curriculum development at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Institutional resources are available for the support of the successful applicant’s research program and a competitive start-up package can be expected. There are opportunities for collaborative work with other MSE faculty, as well as, with faculty from other departments including physics, chemistry, electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and biology. In addition, interaction with local industry and national laboratories (including the Idaho National Laboratory and Battelle Pacific Northwest Laboratory) and other state and federal agencies is encouraged. The immediate proximity with Washington State University offers collaboration in research and cross listing of courses.  Practical experience in industry will be considered a plus. Mechanisms for filing patents and establishment of start-up companies based on the technology developed from research activities are in place. The successful candidate is expected to be an Idaho Professional Engineer or to register as such within three years of his/her appointment.

The successful candidate will join an expanding Department with high visibility at the University and State levels.
