Product Manager
COMPANY: Late stage start-up company, well into commercialization, that develops and manufactures products to precisely control the instantaneous release of heat energy for reaction initiation and joining applications. Building from its strengths in material science, computer modeling and process engineering, provides solutions to its partners and customers in commercial and defense industries.
POSITION: Product Manager, Thin Film
REPORTS TO: Vice President, Business Development & Marketing
SUMMARY: Apply technical knowledge and well-developed market understanding to assume complete management responsibility for innovative thin film product line. Conceive, plan, and perform all activities to achieve maximum profitability through aggressive marketing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain complete responsibility for developing a product strategy, including product positioning and pricing, for thin film users.
• Develop and execute tactical programs, both short and long-term for thin film business sector.
• Manage entire product life cycle from strategic planning to tactical execution which includes product readiness and development to ensure achievement of financial targets and customer satisfaction.
• Maintain on-going knowledge of trends in technology affecting the company’s thin film products.
• Assure that market intelligence is received and analyzed so that market opportunities may be capitalized on as they occur and the effects of competitive activity may be minimized. Organize information pertinent to current and future market opportunities/requirements in a manner that results in development of a marketing/new business plan.
• Collaborate with product development staff to shepherd the product development process. As project manager for these efforts, initiate the process; develop proposals for market domain; define specifications, targets, and timeline; obtain necessary management approvals and execute plan. Interface with others as necessary to ensure that goals are achieved within the target timeframe.
• Make presentations to customer and industry groups; attend trade shows.
• Support sales staff by periodically accompanying them on field calls, responding to customer inquiries and arranging for technical service and application engineering support.
• Target and identify new products and future market opportunities for existing and potential customers, which in turn, will ultimately result in long-term sales growth; build and strengthen relationships customer relationships.
• Implement product line extensions and new product lines by understanding and suggesting an effective strategy resulting in desired market share, growth, and profitability.
• Function as the voice of the customer and market with regard to product specifications and requirements.
• Plan and execute product launches.
• Develop and execute market communications for product line including development of product brochures and managing website content.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in product management for thin film.
• Recognized industry professional with impeccable credentials and respected industry reputation.
• Understanding of the global electronics industry’s thin film market segment.
• Ability to utilize product knowledge to identify, select, and promote technology roadmaps for the business to follow with core and potential product programs
• Ability to scope market needs, interface with R&D on detailed technical issues, broad level product architecture and develop product requirement specifications.
• Self starter , able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Excellent communication, good interpersonal, facilitation skills.
• Ability to effectively engage with peers and, customers’ management as well as the technical leadership within the industry.
• Superior team building/associate development skills; ability to work in a collaborative manner with peers and business leaders.
• Possess an open and analytical mindset, a change agent who is able to challenge the status quo and influence process and practice.
• Strong execution skills
EDUCATION: Degree in Material Science, Engineering or Chemistry
COMPENSATION: Competitive base salary commensurate with experience plus bonus.
