Technical Sales Engineer at world's largest manufacturer of platinum group metals

COMPANY: World's largest manufacturer of platinum group metals; fabricates platinum materials and carries out the marketing of precious metals, particularly the output of the Anglo Plat Group's platinum company (world's largest producer of platinum).  Major markets served include nitric acid/ammonium, nitrate fertilizer and explosives, automotive and aerospace ignition, glass and fiberglass
 
POSITION: Technical Sales Engineer
REPORTS TO: Sales & Marketing Manager, Industrial Products
PURPOSE: Assume complete responsibility for a broad range of industrial platinum products customers and prospects. Assist in increasing growing, profitable sales by fully developing business at existing accounts, particularly in the hydrogen cyanide and nitric acid application areas.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•    Maintain responsibility and accountability for direct customer interface on field engineering and technical problem solving tasks.
•    Provide design and engineering support for new and existing products and services, new product education, and training of field sales and customers.  Perform these activities in an environment of customer specific needs and requirements where product quality and service are essential.
•    Interface with production and internal engineering on a regular basis.
•    Conduct on-going market research on new application areas and sub-segments for PGM’s in the industrial marketplace.
•    Create new product concepts and monitor new product development activities.
•    Perform competitive analysis of companies serving the PGM marketplace.
•    Assure that market intelligence is received and accurately analyzed so that sales force may capitalize on market opportunities as they develop and that the effects of competitive activity may be minimized.
•    Work with existing customers and other sales engineers to understand current applications and determine where those applications can be expanded to other customers and sub-segments.
•    Participate in trade shows and industry professional activities and associations.
•    Define which opportunities are a good fit with company’s capabilities.
•    Collaborate with customers’ development teams on technical issues to expand relationships, thereby increasing market awareness of company reliability and technical prowess.
•    Work with senior members of customers’ technology groups to assure the specification of company’s materials into customers’ products on a regular basis, thereby continuing long-term partnerships with these organizations.
•    Provide regular project progress and customer visit reports to management.

REQUIREMENTS:
•    technical sales, engineering, project management and or manufacturing experience preferred.
•    In-depth knowledge of metals processes, especially as related to PGMs would be an asset.
•    Experience with good manufacturing practices (GMP & ISO)
•    Ability to quickly develop a detailed knowledge of internal production operations, customers’ production operations, and competitive landscape.
•    Ability to think outside the box, pursuing application areas beyond the traditional focus for company’s products and apply creativity to that process.
•    Ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external customers to support new product and service introductions.
•    High level of personal integrity and a strong, committed work ethic; possessed of good judgment and sound decision-making abilities.
•    Strong sense of business ethics and the ability to develop and maintain unquestioned credibility internally and externally
•    Capable of quickly ramping up knowledge base concerning new markets.
•    Fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred.
•    Effective written and verbal communication skills; succinct in report writing and presentations.
•    Ability to take the initiative on a wide variety of projects essential to growing the business.
•    Excellent organizational and planning skills in order to meet key business objectives.
•    Ability to travel extensively throughout  North America with some trips to Mexico and South America
    
EDUCATION: B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
COMPENSATION: Competitive base salary commensurate with experience plus bonus.
